Title: Did dyndns work behind router
Post by: Paul on January 19, 2004, 10:31:25 PM
I used dyndns.org to point my ip to the SME server behind the router.

As I install the SME 6.0, it assigned the External IP address is 192.168.2.87 and I used server configuration to assign dyndns.org to point to my own IP (66.xxx.xxx.xxx).  I also forwarded this IP at the router so that dyndns can see this server.  However, over a period of time,  instead of pointing IP 66.xxx.xxx.xxx, I ping my domain and it showed 192.168.2.87.

Should I disable SME server configuraion or there is another to do this setup. Thanks.

use ddclient instead of builtin dyndns client and let it resolve IP automaticaly (your real router's Public IP)
contrib for ddclient is available.

Does anyone can tell more details how to run/install this ddclient after I downloaded from http://members.rogers.com/ddclient/pub/ddclient.tar.gz

Did you make a search using ' ddclient ' on this site ?

I think it can help you.

Well, there is one, but is written in Spanish(?)
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Dynamic%20DNS%20ES

and I don't want to guess HOW-TO.

Anyone can translate it into English, please!

Wait - and if I'm out of line I'll apologize - but the reason 'ping' is giving you the local address is because you are inside the LAN with your server, right? You need to check it from OUTSIDE your LAN and I bet it resolves to the public IP you set-up in DynDNS.

Well, I have forwarded the port to the SME Server at the router.
Since the external IP is dynamic, and behide the router, the configuration set the external IP at the server must be 192.168.x.x.

I was trying to find more details about ddclient, but not much help.  Anyone knows how to ?
