Title: host names
Post by: Gregory Baird on January 19, 2004, 10:50:56 PM
Hello

I am running sme 6.0 and have found it will not resolve all host names

ie:
ns.domain.com main sme server set as gateway-server

ns1.domain.com -  local 192.168.1.3 windows nt box works fine
webcam.domain.com - local 192.168.1.98 axis network camera doesn't work
www.different-domain.com - local 192.168.1.28 sme box 2 doesn't work

The sme 6.0 box is a gateway-server setup and  squid is turned off it resolves all hostnames
to its self execpt for the ip pointing to the windows nt box

any help?
Greg

I have switched the sme box to a server only and still no luck
going to the webcam.domain.com site I can only hit it using

Is your workstation configured to use this SME server as DNS server?

Ahha!
How would find "webcam.domain.com" unles you tell your ISP to configure this host in their DNS server.
Probably easier to use hosts file or point WS to use SME server as a DNS server.

I have a bit of the same problem. I use My SME-server as gateway and server.
I have a Mandrake instalation named mars that I have put in the hostnames and adresses in the server manager pointing to a local IP 192.168.1.2. I can reach mars with http://mars and not http://mars.company.com when in my local network.

I also have put the mars.company.com domain into my ISP's DNS server pointing to my gateway. When http://mars.company.com from outside my local network I only get the gateways Primary site when expecting the request to be forwarded to the webiste at my mars box
