Title: Network down
Post by: Michael McKinnon on September 12, 2000, 10:11:16 PM
Hello Everybody,

My E-Smith Server has been running great for about 3-4 weeks without a reboot.  Then, this morning, my whole network went down. (No Internet Access and no E-Mail access [remote]).

Anybody have any ideas why this has happened?  I suspect my ISP because they use DHCP to configure my IP address.  Does the E-Smith Server automatically update my IP address when it changes?

I know that bibber had the same problem.

Thanks,

Michael.

Michael,
Sorry to hear about that. I guess your isp does not want a webserver on your internet connection.
E-Smith does not update the isp assigned IP address. Consider using one of the free dns services
that can track your ip changes. In that case E-Smith should be set to Dynamic Ip for the internet
connection.

Who is your ISP? Mine is Sympatico and the whole service was down in the Ottawa area last night. I still can't get to my server yet, although I havent tried to use the internet from home. Maybe your ISP is having problems, rather then assuming they've cut you off. Maybe they've cut me off! Who knows?!
