I want to use dialup with a static ip. I did not see this option on the setup console. I plan to:
1. setup as a dialup connection.
2. cp /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/diald.conf /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/diald.conf
3. change the custom template diald.conf so that local is my fixed IP and remote is my ISP router addr.
4. reboot
Is there a more straightforward way to do this or is this necessary?
Thanks for an excellent product!

Our most recent survey on www.e-smith.org is designed to gather more information about
how people are connected to the net. Semi-permanent modems with static IPs are getting quite
a few votes.

Most ISPs will set the local IP for your link automatically. So, dynamic and static IP addresses
are the same from the p.o.v. of the e-smith server. However, not all ISPs do this, and then you
will need to perform the machinations you show. You almost certainly don't need to set the remote
address - any ISP who allows you to set this is asking for trouble...
The first thing I would suggest is checking whether your ISP forces the local address for static
IP dial-up. If so, you shouldn't need to change anything. If not, maybe you could suggest that
your ISP should do so.
