Post by: Denver Espenorio on September 17, 2000, 11:13:34 PM
anyone know how I can modify the e-smith server to allow regular users to login thru telnet? I am trying to run eggdrops on the server and I dont them in root.

Thanks,

Ah bad news there. IMHO you should never allow remote users to telnet to your server. You can install a secure alternative, openssh, see the modules page for charlie bradys e-smith addon and http://www.openssh.com for where you can download the rpms for openssh (see the portable section).

Of course unless in the last few years things have changed, hosting bots for people will essentially make your server the target of countless bored script kiddies so you wont want packets with passwds going around, so ssh is the way to go. Youll also have to change the users shells so they can login, and of course you understand that allowing users access to your e-smith box in itself removes a layer of security.
