Title: WHY: "another foreground fetchmail is run'g"
Post by: Wei on September 20, 2000, 06:39:00 AM
We keep getting -lots- of these
(once every time the e-smith box
goes looking for mail) error reports:

"fetchmail: another foreground fetchmail is running at 652."

(Rec'd, as e-mail, by admin user at a LAN workstation)

Have -we- done something to cause this?

Have we missed a bug fix?

How to correct it?

What to look for?

TIA

Hi,

You are not typing something like /etc/fetchmail in the console window?
Guess not.

The command you see is Fetchmail (the script run to get the e-mail from the provider)
The message you state normally appears is you try to start fetchmail while another fetchmail has not yet been completed.

It seems that your e-smith is still fetching e-mail (so has not finished yet) when a new fetchmail job is started. Maybe you should try to set the e-mail retreival interval somewhat higher.
An other possiblility is to have your ISP check how much e-mail there is waiting.
It's impossible to fetch 50 Mb of mail over an ISDN line in less then an hour..

good luck,

Niels
