Title: Forums and Documents
Post by: AJ Henley on October 17, 2000, 01:17:13 AM
First, IMHO, I have been looking at different intranet starting points for almost 3 years now (like some, implemented a few, hated a lot) and I was amazed by the strength and elegance of what e-smith has done.

That being said, has anyone combined e-smith with forum and document upload/download capabilites (through the web interface)?

My users (college business students) know the difference between a floppy and a hard drive, but they aren't up to learning ftp or a nntp reader. I need to be able to set it up that they can make posts and upload files through the web.

I love the fact that the professors will be able to save files directly into their folders (or i-bays) though SAMBA but how can I set it so that others can see those files through a cute web page.

I welcome all answers (even flames if they contain useful information).
thank you

aj

to packages that do work well on an e-smith are
(phorum - the forum software that is used here) and
(owl - web document manager) search for owl on freshmeat.net
follow the README or INSTALL files to get them setup.  You may need the php and MySql packages that Dan Brown has available for the webmail addon.
