error: failed dependencies
apache >= 1.3.12 is needed by horde-1.2.0-1esmith2
but i already installed php-4.01pl2-3.i386.rpm and e-smith-php4-4.0.0-3.noarch.rpm did i miss something?

Yes - you need apache 1.3.12, as shown in the "failed dependencies" line.
Apache 1.3.12 is built with the Apache extended API support, which makes it
much easier to add extra modules at run time.

Actually, Apache 1.3.12 isn't needed for horde-1.2.0, but you should be using horde 1.2.3 and IMP 2.2.3, as these fix several bugs including a couple of security holes. And yes, the Apache 1.3.12 RPM you found will work just fine.
You should also install the updated PHP RPMs I've uploaded here.
