Title: IPSEC VPN
Post by: Justin Funke on November 11, 2000, 12:07:09 AM
Is anyone currently working on an IPSEC based VPN feature? I was thinking about working on one but don't want to waste time on something that has either been tried already, or something already almost done.

Also excuse my ignorance but what application are you using a VPN with no data encryption (from an earlier post)? Outside of increased performance I don't understand why anyone would implement this?

Thanks,

I have a situation where I have several clients using an e-smith server with Windows Workstations. The e-smith is being used as a file, print and internet servers. It works great. However, two  of my clients have more than one location. In each instance they have a combination of cable and DSL connections. They wish to be able to map remote drives and share files with Excel, Word, etc. They also want to be able to run Quickbooks Pro and Peachtree. This requires a secure VPN connection. I have attempted to setup such a connection through the e-smith servers. Thus far I have not been sucessful. If this is similair to your situation I will attempt to help where I can. My forte is with SBS 4.0, NT, etc. The street price for a five user SBS system is About $1500.00 so you can see why my clients would like to find an e-smith solution.
