Title: Phorum questions
Post by: Alec Norek on November 23, 2000, 03:39:13 PM
I am toying with the idea of running a private phorum on my server to do with share trading.  Has anybody got comments on ease of installation & any problems that I may encounter etc.  My e-smith is running so well that I don't want to open up a can of worms.  I know that it runs on this site, but these guys know what they are doing.  Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Alec

I've installed Phorum without any major problems.  If you install PHP and MySQL, and then follow the directions, it shouldn't be a problem.  You can download the Phorum package from www.phorum.org.

Thanks for the reply.  What I might do then is install webmail, which will will give me Mysql & PHP and then investigate Phorum first.  If all goes well I can then go onto assessing webmail.  Can you see any problems with this approach?

I don't see any real problems, but I also don't see any advantage to installing the horde and imp packages at this point if what you want is the phorum software.  The MySQL/PHP packages are indepentent of the horde/imp packages--I just put the instructions together because webmail is the reason I packaged PHP for e-smith.
