Title: proftpd
Post by: Scott on December 07, 2000, 01:26:21 AM
Hello all I've got a problem running proftp. I'm using axis 2100 cameras to login to the server via ftp and transfer an image every 10 seconds. However the server only seems to allow an image to be written every 60 seconds. My question is: is there a setting in proftp that hinders having a user login every 10 seconds and overwrite a file?
   Thanks in advance.

Not that I am aware of, but you might like to read the doco on www.proftpd.net
There is a limit on the number of concurrent FTP sessions (see /etc/proftpd.conf
and the templates which generate it).

Are you sure that you can login, put the image and logoff in ten seconds -
maybe your FTP sessions are backing up? Have you checked whether you
have multiple concurrent sessions?

Thanks Gordon,
I've read the documentation extensively. I also recieved a email from someone who is accomplishing the overwrite every three seconds. However he is not using e-smith as the Linux server. So I'm drawn to look at any type of setting within the e-smith enviornment or specific to the proftp or ftp security. My logs show a successful connection from the client every ten seconds. But the image only updates every 60 seconds. I've tried using the sync command every 12 seconds to see if it's cache/writing related but it's not. So what could cause e-smith/or the ftp service exclusive to e-smith to not let a file be overwritten before a 60 second delay?

I should add I'm using the exact same setup on a Redhat Linux server, using wu-ftp as the server. I have 6 camera's writing their images all at different intervals under 15 seconds, successfully.

Any thought's Ideas or suggestions would be great. I would like to use e-smith for this program.
