I have installed Akopia on a fresh Redhat 7.0 install. You extract the source files and when running ./configure, It went over CPAN and grabbed packages and installed them dynamically.I don't see why this shouldn't work on e-smith although I haven't tried it yet. I may try it on a test machine first. Have you attempted to install it yet?

Akopia makes an awesome e-commerce package. I would like to see it work on e-smith. Let me know how it goes...

Ralph-
I have tried the ./configure, but it fails because it is missing the make and make install libraries. I am assuming this error occurs because E-smith does not come with a compiler. So I then tried using the 6.1 rpm interchange file. This will install but it installs the web root in the httpd rather than E-smith's default "primary --> html" directory. What I think needs to happen, is for someone to build an rpm based -noarch- package that will move the correct files over. I moved them manually but the perl file in the cgi-bin did not want to run. Perhaps I need to manually configure some files.  If you have any ideas, I am open to try them!

Skip and Ralph,

I too am interested in getting Interchange working with the E-Smith server.  The two seem like a very good combination.  I also tried the RH6 RPM with the same result as you found Skip.  Everything seems to be installed onto the server but not where it belongs.

Basically it seems there are two parts to getting Interchange working with E-Smith: 1) Get the Interchange files in the correct place and 2) configure Interchange to work with E-Smith.  Unfortunately I do not have enough experience with Interchange to have a good idea where the files would belong on an E-Smith server as well as how Interchange should be configured to work correctly with E-Smith.

i tried getting an older verion of interchange working with e-smith. I have posted my exact same cry for help here many times, this is the best response i have seen (and I didnt start it...DAMN)

I got interchange to the point that it would install and I could get it to generate the pages for the demo cart that comes with it. Nothing more, it wouldn't display images, or allow me to add items. I had to download compliers and all the perl packages it tries to download I downloaded manually and installed. I dont feel I have enough knowledge of linux to properly install this setup. So once again I beg someone SMART try setting this up and release a rpm package of it. Interchange is by far the best shopping cart system and I would like to have a copy of it while it is still free.

I haven't tried it yet. I will take you guy's word for it. I do have a few things I would like to add though.

Interchange requires a daemon be running in order for the file in the cgi-bin folder to run. This process cannot run as root. I have in the past created an account called interch that I use to install the source with. This gives me an interchange directory that I run ./configure. Perhaps there are some command line options to get the files into the proper place. I hope some e-smith guru's can help with this.

Another factor is that I believe the cgi-bin is not active on the i-bays. I saw rumor of this possibly getting rolled into 4.1 but it looked too late.

There should be some template modifications to take care of that though.

Since the bin/makecat script seems to run without a hitch, It seems like getting the daemon to run would be the next step. I may be able to try this out within the next week or so. If someone figures it out sooner, Please post your findings.
