Left Panel Gone?

Left Panel Gone?
« on: February 28, 2001, 11:27:01 PM »
For two days now, the hard drive on my e-smith box has been going crazy.  Constant disk usage, even with all clients shut down (as in powered down!) and it is just sitting there by itself.

The manager has been slow to respond, and now fails to show the left panel.  Anyone else?

I am using 4.1.1, no mods, no patches, two virtual domains, 3 user accounts, 2 groups.  Also, no real activity on the virtual domains as they were just created and have no pages yet.

Poltergeist activity ?

Jokes aside, I have not had the spurious HDD activity, but the missing
left panel seems to be common in 4.1 - and it is not related to a slow server.

I have seen it on a new PIII 700 running 128Mb RAM
and an IBM 7200 RPM HDD !

It needs a ctrl refresh in IE to display on first opening.

I did report this, but no response thus far ....

I held the CTRL and hit refresh, I also dis a CTRL-F5 and neither helped.  Did you mean something else?

Try just refresh (F5)  or shift refresh ?

This did work for me every time.

Maybe your server has a real problem elsewhere -

How much RAM do have installed ?

Have you ever seen the the left panel ?

Was it an upgrade from a 4.0x version ?

You can try and do the following from the console.
log in as root
type the following :

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd-admin restart

Then do a ctrl refresh in IE

SHIFT-Refresh did it.  You threw me a little with the ctrl.

Thanks for the tip.
