Network Printing...

I am having a few problems printing to a network printer.  I was hoping that someone here could help.  When I use e-smith to make the printer share, I don't seem to be able to print.

What I have is a little "pocket" printserver from Hawking Technologies.

http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/pn7117.htm

I have it connected to the paralell port of an HP LaserJet 5L.

I have assigned a static IP of 192.168.1.50 to the little printserver.  I can access the built-in utility that the device has at that address, so I am pretty sure that it is working properly.  Also, if I install its little ip printing utility on a windows machine, I can connect to the printer and print just fine.

The problem comes when I try and share that printer on the e-smith box.  I set up the print share with the printer name and point it to the IP address, leaving the location box alone.  The network printer name is raw, just like it suggests.

Windows asks me to print a test page and it comes out just fine.  However, any other print jobs stop the printserver from responding and I have to unplug the power to get it to reset.

By the way, I had been using this printserver under another Linux appliance called NetMax, so I am pretty sure it will work, somehow.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi david,
I am experienceing the same problem with a HP Laserjet 4si.  Have you worked out a fix to your problem?? I'd be very interested to know how you did it.

Thanks in advance,
Brad

I think I have found a fix for this.  Actually my work for a while was to install the windows IP printing software that comes with the device,  that worked fine.  However, in some other post someone mentioned the the /etc/printcap file.  So I looked there and notice a setting:

:ff_separator=false:\

well, I just set that to

:ff_separator=true:\

Of course I have yet to template it, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

By the way the little device I mentioned above is and nice cheap.  Now it even works for me the way I want it to.

Thanks and I hope this helps someone!
