Installation problem
« on: May 14, 2002, 11:47:27 AM »
I've been having a play with 5.1.2, and it installed OK. However I thought I'd messed something up, so I f-disked, formatted & re-installed. Now after installation is complete, it reboots and gives me these error messages:

supervise: fatal: unable to acquire log/supervise/lock: readonly file system
supervise: fatal: unable to acquire qmail/supervise/lock: readonly file system

I suspect there's still traces of the previous install on the HD?? I've removed the Linux partitions with PM6 for DOS, used IBM's ZAP, reformatted FAT16, and left it with no partitions, but the same thing happens each time.

What the hell have I done ;-))))

Hello Ck,

normally, when installing sme server, the install procedure destroy every partitions on the disk and reformats creating a swap partition and a data partition. You don't need to use any fdisk or PM... As for your error, i don't see what could be wrong, perhaps you got bad clusters or your install iso is corrupted... Try on another HD (minimum size must be 1Gb) if the error happens again, try redownloading SME and reburn a CD...

If this does not resolve problem, check again this forum.

Strange.... I put the HD with the 'corrupt' installation into another box and it goes fine! Must not like something in the other system.
