Topic: Public access to server manager

Even though many will tell me it's insecure: Does anybody know how to give the server manager public access via ssl? Other systems like the cobalt servers also use an admin panel with ssl access, therefore I don't really see a reason why not to do so if it simplyfies things much as in my case. Can anybody help please?

set yourself up with a pptp vpn connection then just access it from inside the network. It's really only one small extra step that provides the most secure way to manipulte your server.

OR

run vnc server internally on one of your boxes ... forward port 5900 (or whatever port you tell VNC to use) to that box and just use that connection from inside as well ... both work very well for accessing your server-manager from outside. vncviewer is small enough to download even on a dial up or carry on a floppy with you.

In 5.5, look in Remote Access, down at the bottom...
Add a network of 0.0.0.0, with a subnet mask of 0.0.0.0, there done deal, SSL access to the server-manager from anywhere.

Wouldn't that also entail public access to ALL SERVICES as well? SMTP for example?

No, if you added it as a Local Network it would, not in the Remote Access Panel it doesn't.

I tried Terry's solution but it doesn't seem to work; I still get an access denied error when I try to access the server manager from outside after entering 0.0.0.0 twice. (I'm using SME 5.6).

I also tried Terry's "solution" and it didn't work either.

I'm using server only SME 5.6, that might be it.  I've been able to https into webmail, but not server-manager.
