Importing Outlook data to Horde/Webmail
« on: September 05, 2003, 06:09:50 AM »
I posted this a while back but never had a reply.  I have tried exporting data in several different formats from Outlook and importing it into Horde/Webmail to no avail.  Has anyone had any luck importing data?

Yes, export to a .cvs file, import the .cvs file.  Did it a couple of years ago now, I do remember I had to manipulate the data in the csv file to different columns before I imported it.

Does anyone know the CVS file structure requirements? ie what data can be imported, column titles etc.

Thanks

If you are talking about the address book import in webmail the new version of webmail (horde-imp-turba upgrade from Dan Brown's contribs) allows import of:

Comma separated
Tab separated
Outlook
Vcard
Mulberry address book
Pine address book

I have only used the CSV option and imported from 'The Bat!' (my desktop mail client) CSV backup.  I imported without changes and had very little to alter.  I do not know the actual expected format of the rows however.

I'm exporting from Outlook and have used the *.cvs format, both with and without headers.  I don't think the problem is on the exporting side.  I've looked at the file data and it looks correct.

When I go to import into the e-smith webmail application, and yes, I have upgraded using Dan Brown's how-to info, nothing happens.  It looks like it's uploading the file, but when it's done I receive no error or success message, it just goes back to the import screen.  Obviously, when I check the address book, nothing has been loaded.  I'm thinking there's a permission problem somewhere on the server, but I have no clue where to start.

Do you see any reference in the logs?

If you try to import a cvs file that has comas included in some of the columns (such as an address or lastname "," firstname) it will cause problems.  I was having the same trouble importing cvs.  Once I got rid of any columns with comas as part of the data item the import went fine (but I was not able to import addresses).
