You can replace the current kernel with the latest RH kernel RPM(s), but:
- you will lose PPTP VPN capability, as PPTP depends on kernel
version specific modules
- you may have to hand configure lilo (boot manager). If you get this
wrong, your system may not be bootable
For normal server usage you may not notice any speed difference in using SATA drivers. I wouldn't bother.
