We have set e-smth up and have excellant web access on all machines.

We havent been able to master the collection of email yet - can someone take a quick look at the settings and point us in the right direction pleeeeeeez.

ISP Mail Server : mail2.logicworld.com.au

internal network address: 192.xxx.xxx.xxx

ipaddress for external connection: 202.xxx.xxx.xxx

in the e-smith manager our settings
multidrop
primary mail server : 192.xxx.xxx.xxx
secondary mail server: mail2.logicworld.com.au

This is the error message i get

The host 'mail2.logicworld.com.au' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail2.logicworld.com.au', Server: 'mail2.logicworld.com.au', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Steve, is it your isp mail you are trying to collect from your regular account. if so there are a number of ways to fix this depending on what email client you are using. if you can give me a bit more info on what you are trying to do exactly i may be able to point you in the right direction. i went through similar problems when i first set up my e-smith machine to share my adsl connection between my computers and wanted to collect mail from my regular bigpond account using microsoft outlook.

It seems to me that you have entered the adress i the wrong box.

The primary mail server should be 'mail2.logicworld.com.au' not 192.....

The secondary mail server should be left blank. It is only used if you want to relay all mail to another server.

thanks for your reply Rick,

We are trying to retrieve email using outlook express (until we figure out what we are doing).

Our goal eventually is to go towards webmail.

I have set up an account in "oe" which uses
pop3 : mail2.logicworld.com.au
smtp: mail.netspace.net.au
account name: name
password: password

but the error seems to be getting past the e-smith box as ive tried a couple of differnet mailservers to retrieve from. (also the speed of the error would indicate an internal network problem).

sometimes learning is frustrating

ok, if you want a temporary fix for outlook express until you work out your webmail you can do this quite easily. leave your user name and password in outlook express exactly as per normal but substitute your pop and smtp server names with their respective ip addresses and you will find that outlook express can then locate your mail servers without trying to use the e-smith mail server. if you do not know the ip address of your isp mail server just launch a dos box ie: command and ping your isp mail server to obtain the address for example for my isp which is bigpond the command would be "ping mail.bigpond.com" without the quotes obviously which returns the ip address of 144.135.24.13 which is what i have entered in the pop and smtp fields for outlook express. also this method requires no changes from any of the default settings in e-smith either. hope this is of some help to you.

Rick thanks for your post,

I changed the servers to the respective ip addresses and "bugger"

The connection to the server has failed. Account: '203.34.156.2', Server: '203.34.156.2', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I might have a problem in the communication of the w2000 network. I dont know whats important so here goes

Our Network
1 x server w2000 server   ip: 192.132.217.1
1 x e-smith server        ip: 192.132.217.2
6 x workstations w2000 proffessional ip: 192.132.217.xx

Internet Access on e-smith 192.132.217.2 via ADSL Connection

Internal Domain Name on the Windows Network: i-redlands.com.au
Domain for e-smith: e-marketingonline.net

I changed the the e-smith box from the i-redlands domain to e-marketingonline.net because i couldnt get outside to view our primary site (and i dont want to bring it inside til i work the bugs out)

the e-smith box sits inside the i-redlands workgroup area in e-smith
e-smith box is visible and inside the i-redlands domain from all the w2k machines and all have appropriate access.

I dont know what else to tell you
I hope there is a solution out there somewhere?

Steve
