backup2ws with the beta version for SME 6.0.1 on winnt-ws
« on: November 26, 2004, 09:38:23 AM »
I try to back up my server to a winnt workstation. The problem is, that the job dies while trying to mount the workstation. Is there an explanation for this way of the backup?

Thank you in advance,

Stefan

Make sure you use "/" and not "\" for the UNC path.
Can you ping the workstation by name from SME? Otherwise use the ip.
Also map directly to the share, not folders inside the share.
Also check the logs...

Hello Shane,

thank you for your reply. I'll show you the messages from the log:

It's a winnt-ws, service-Pack 6a. Maybe this information helps to get this problem fixed?

Thank you in advance
Stefan

Hi Stefan
Ignore the bit about "Called name not present" (that goes away if you use the hostname)

It looks like the folder you are trying to backup "to" is not a shared folder.
I am backing up to an NT server with a share called backup. When I browse through network neighbourhood, I can see the share \\serverhostname\backup. Please confirm you can do the same.

In the backup job properties I have set the destination to //serverhostname/backup or //serveripaddress/backup

Note I have not tried to backup to any folders in the shared folder.
Also I have used a username/password combination with administrative rights (not sure this make a difference or not)

Hi Shane,

thank you for your help! The hint is tp use the name of the host. That fixed all problems.

Things are running fine now.
