accessing remote shares
« on: April 13, 2005, 07:30:01 AM »
I have installed openvpn following Knuddies exelent howto on a SME 6.0-01 server with a few upgrades. The tunnel seems to work, almost.

I can ping, putty to, and access server-manager through the tunnel, but can not access the ibays through my network places, or attempting to map the drive.

I have installed this on 7 other server, and it works flawlessly.

I need a push in a direction to correct this.

Where should  I look?

Are there any log files I should be looking at?

Is there something in the samba.conf I should check?

The ibays are accessable on the local network side without a problem.

Thanks in advance

Bob

Did a litle digging, and found that the vpn was not being added to the samba.conf file when I add the local network. I did add it manually, but I know it will be overwriten at some point. I guess I could use a little help with either getting the local networks to function properly, or creating the proper template to add it that way.

Thanks again

Bob

Not quite the answer you are looking for but if you add your VPN range in local networks it SHOULD write to the hosts-allow declaration in smb.conf - someone else might know of a bug that stops it from doing so but .....

To solve the problem in a different way have a look at smbwebclient-2.8.php - do a search, just installs in Primary ibay and allows you to connect and browse your shares via http:

Thanks for the responce. The problem is that adding it to local networks is not adding it to the hosts allow in the samba.conf. I am going to look at how to properly add a templet fragment to add the vpn network. I am not sure at this time if I can have 2 lines thatset up the host allow, or I have to put all ip ranges on the same line. I am going to look over at the samba site to see the best way to handel this. The other problem would be if some one than myself ever got in volved in this server.
