This must seem like a strange request, but I'd like it if the E-Smith server could display something interesting on the screen. Currently we have a choice of the Server Manager, which goes blank after x minutes, or a login prompt.

Is there something that could run all the time that would maybe show text scrolling past, maybe with colors, that makes it apparent the server is doing something? That would be very cool.

I'll be interested to see what people come up with

Theres a command you run that scrolls all outgoing / incoming network activity.  DOn't know the command myself ... sorry

Hej You can try these for a start
Alt+f2 and log in as -root- with your -adminpassw-
and then these commands

top      enter
iptstate enter
iptraf   enter   to stop x

when you want to stop the other
ctrl+c
have a nice day
