Topic: Raidmonitor question

I've installed the raidmonitor rpm and get the report shown below when I initialize raidmonitor.  I am concerned that the partition tables show different data for hde2 & hdg2.  The same is true for hde3 & hdg3.  Is this a result of using drives from two different manufacturers and/or is it a problem?

If you have two different drives...
(note: it's different drive geometry not manufacturer)
then YES this is most likely the result from using two different drives.

No harm done. No problem.
You will however only use the space provided by the smallest drive.

I probably should have provded more information in my first post.  I am runnning 6.0.1, mirrored on a Maxtor 160g HD and a Samsung 160g HD.  The drives are attached to a Promise Ultra100TX2 controller.

So the drives are the same size but from different manufacturers

Not all drives are manufactured equal.  Same "size" drives from different manufacturers may and probably do have different geometry and slightly different absolute sizes.  Reinhold's reply still applies - just think of them as different sizes.

For me there's one question left...
There are several possible settings where your Raid1 will
_not_ boot with just a single failed disk
with the Ultra100TX2 setup you have there
(...which does imo defeat almost the whole raid1-idea)
...you may want to check !

The Ultra100TX is just an ATA controller card so I don't understand why it would cause a problem with raid1.  Are you saying I should disable a disk and try to boot?

Yes. If you havent done yet...
- disable hdg and boot hde only
- disable hde and boot hdg only

Both should work to be safe.
