hi everybodey,

I am "playing" with the SME7b9 as a project for my school. I dont know much about how it works but Im willing to learn.

now the question: is there a list of all the commands usable in the root and where can I find that?

You may want to use google as it will bring up many answers to your questions or quick tip if you wish to use a command and you know it's rpm then type at the prompt

man rpm

Here is a good experiment for your educational experience.

First, do a little research on a utility called yum.  It is a tool built into SME7 that searches for updates and installs them for you.  After you learn a little about it go to your command line prompt and type the following:

yum update

It will do it's work (might take a while) and then you will be presented with "Update packages yes or no?".  Pick yes and watch it install all available updates.

Then after it is done, type the following 2 commands:

signal-event post-upgrade
signal-event reboot

When you are done and the machine has re-booted PRESTO you now have SME version Pre1.

Have fun!!!

WARNING: If your bios is not configured correctly, it might take up to 15 minutes for post-upgrade to complete...BE PATIENT and don't interrupt the process.  This bug is being fixed.  To avoid the problem all together, make sure your bios has all floppy drives dissabled and remove your floppy drives.
In life, you must either "Push, Pull or Get out of the way!"

hello again,

it took a day to install imagemagick!
first I tried to download by hand.
I failed...
then I tried to do an instalation by hand.
I failed...
then I tried Yum again. din't work. why? I wasnt in the right directory.
find the right directory and did a yum instalation again.
Succes!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

at least I can say this: Building my own SME-server while I dont know much about computers is hard but it's jolly good fun!!!!

So you say you made your first  imagemagick howto....

So where's the beef...

Oh...that's right we forgot to tell you about the rules around here.

You fix it and it works you then post it in the Wiki.

That's the Development button to the left.
Then post a link to it back here.

Only then will you earn your at-a-boy!

BTW the other rule is you can't get everything up and running to fast.....
it makes the old folk's look bad.

We have to brush our teeth on the counter and that takes more time.

If you haven't already.... google
WinSCP
metapad
putty

don't be affraid!!
for example:
the only installations I ever made on a computer are those automatic wizzards...
Iám trying this SME system because my friend recommended it and I like to learn more about this kind of software.
for now I'm just trying to make it work.

so I still dont know much about the system but I'm learning.
my next project: install gallery2
