Upgrading from 5.X versions
« on: February 20, 2006, 09:28:07 PM »
If you are still running the 5.x versions then the best way to upgrade from a unmodified system is to...

Upgrade 5.5 > 5.6

Then upgrade from 5.6 > 6.0.x

You can also upgrade 5.6 > 7.x (please post to Bug Tracker if you have any issues)

Hope this is of help if you are still running the earlier versions!

Good to know byte

Where can people who need the 5.6 iso for this upgrade find it?

I've had a look around the download area and I cannot see it.

There are a number of changes in 7.0pre4 (when it arrives) which makes a 5.6 -> 7.0pre4 upgrade work properly. Nobody has any plans (that I know of) to test 5.5 -> 7.0pre4, but 5.5 -> 6.0 -> 7.0pre4 should be relatively clean.

As has been said a number of times - if you are running 5.x, UPGRADE. NOW!

Upgrading from 5.5

I've tried to do 5.5 -> 7.1 as a test.

It recognizes the ext2 -> ext3 filesystem, the only thing it doesn't change is the quota system.  It comes up as an stopped service when loading.

I will likely do the stepped install, backup under 7.1, do a fresh install of 7.1 and restore to avoid any transfer of possible problems.
