Topic: Help I cant see my web server

My system is as follows

Internet static IP 88.96.9.118 from ISP

Modem (conexant dynamode modem router)
Modem local IP 10.0.0.2
I have port 80 forwarded to server

SME Server 7.0pre1 IP 10.0.0.3 which connects to the modem
Server and gateway
DHCP server
Local IP 192.168.0.1

4 windows xp pc’s
all can use the internet without any problems


I have two web sites running on the server 1 in primary and the other in an ibay
Anyone on the internet can see them fine. But if I type in my static IP address I get

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

I can see the web site locally via 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.3 but not via my static web IP.

So if any of you good people have any ideas as to how I can correct this problem I would really be grateful.

I’m sure it’s a router rule that needs changing, but the information on the dynamode modem router does not cover this.

I have tried running this server on the orange port (DMZ) of smoothwall and that worked great as a http server. But I’m trying to set it up without using the smoothwall because when using smoothwall I need two servers.

One as a file server on the green network and http server on the DMZ zone.

Firstly this thread should have been started in the SME7xx forum, hopefully a mod will come along and move it to the correct place.

Have you tried a traceroute from one of you client machines to 88.96.9.118 this may show where the problem is.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I had the same problem using SME 6

dave I have done a google on tracroute and followed instructions for a windows xp os and this was the result

C:\>tracert 88.96.9.118

it dont mean that much to me can you tell me if it looks ok to you.

Of course you can't access your website from within your local network by using your public ip address. Your IP address 88.96.9.118 is the WAN address of your router. Thats as far as any http requests will go.

This is not problem, its the way networking works.

As you have said from outside your network there will be no problem.

Ok Jon I can see that now, but as a newbie I did not know this thanks for pointing it out. Is there anyway I can take a look at my web server via the internet ? maybe via a relay server or loopback ?

When I had the web server on the DMZ of the smoothwall I had no problem seeing it. so I assumed it would be the same using the router, wrong ! That is probably because smoothwall DMZ was using a different IP address from the local network.

O well you live and learn, it would be nice to be able to use some kind of a loopback from the internet for testing.
