Installation Problems
« on: June 18, 2007, 08:07:15 AM »
Hi All

This is my first time trying to install SME 7.1 on a server and since I am not so technically savvy I'm having a few problems. Currently we have a Intel Core2Duo processor with 2 x 250GB HDD with 2GB RAM. When I boot the server off the SME Server 7.1 disk I am asked to install additional drivers, no problems here. I add the drivers for network card etc as per the specs of the machine. I then get the following, I'm assuming it might be hardware configuration problem as my company has installed 7.1 from this CD on a previous workstation/server.

The error I am getting is:

Running anaconda, the SME Server system Installer - Please Wait....
Traceback (most recent call list):
-- File "/usr/bin/anaconda", line 1130, in ? instClass.setInstallData(id)
-- File "/tmp/product/installclasses/smeinstallclass.py", line 297, in setInstallData
--  self.setDefaultPartitioning( id.partitions, doClear=0)
-- File "/tmp/product/installclasses/smeinstallclass.py", line 262,  in setDefaultPartitioning
--  dispatch.skipStep("partition", skip=0)

system ready for reboot ......

If anybody can point me in the right direction or if I need to include more information sorry not very technical savvy  so wasn't sure what to include would be much appreciated !!

I think the install CD has a 'check this CD' function - you could try that to make sure the CD still works.

The critical devices, of course, are the network card and hard disk controller...  and of these I don't think that unrecognized network controllers would be a problem.

You mention that you have to load extra drivers -- what drivers, and where did you get them?

Thanks mmccarn,

I've run a check on the disk and it comes back with a pass. Sorry when I mean drivers the actual prompts I get are:

-- No Hard Drives have been found. You probably need to manually choose device drivers for the installation to succeed. Would you like to select drivers now?

From here I select Yes.

I then get
The following devices have been found on your system.
Advanced Host Controller Interface Sata (ahci)

This time I didn't select any other devices and just selected Done then the initial message posted above comes up.

Here's a post from the centos forums about 'ahci' support on a compaq ml150: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5695&forum=29

I did a google search for the hardware description: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=centos+Advanced+Host+Controller+Interface+Sata+%28ahci%29+&btnG=Google+Search
and got some links mentioning problems with sata raid controllers.

Anything here related to your situation?  This hardware stuff is way, way over my head!

Thanks,

Its way over my head too   , could feel the breeze between the ears.    I think I'll have to call in someone more technical than I am to help with this.

Thanks for the help
