SME and T1 connection
« on: January 04, 2010, 04:16:43 PM »
Is it possible to use a T1 connection with SME in server/gateway mode? Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea how a T1 connects. A search for "T1 connection" only brings a couple of topics. Thanks in advance.

Most T1's connect to a router that converts the T1 signaling to ethernet -- then you hook the ethernet to your SME WAN port "et voila".

I suppose it is possible that someone makes a PCI T1 card that could go inside your SME, but I've never seen one...

Here are some T1 router's I've used:
http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps221/products_data_sheet09186a00800920ec.html
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=netopia+t1+router&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=488948797207790992&ei=zzhCS-GaGMvmlAePrPSUBw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBsQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers

And here's a CDW product search for "T1 Router":
http://www.cdw.com/shop/search/results.aspx?key=t1+router&searchscope=All&sr=1&Find+it.x=0&Find+it.y=0

Usually the ISP will sell you a pre-configured router along with the connection, unless you're setting up your own point-to-point T1 from scratch.
