SME9 as a VM under PROXMOX - avoid fs corruption ?
« on: April 08, 2016, 12:51:16 PM »
I use SME9 as a VM under PROXMOX. The HWRaidController is from Adaptec. I have a ZM-Module and Write-cache mode is enabled to improve the performance...

Code: [Select]
Read-cache mode                          : Enabled
Write-cache mode                         : Enabled (write-back)
Write-cache setting                      : Enabled (write-back) when protected by battery/ZMM

There is an Info abt fs corruption in case of powerfailure from Proxmox:

...
you need to use barrier option in your linux guest fstab if kernel < 2.6.37 to avoid fs corruption in case of powerfailure.
...

My SME9-Kernel at the Moment is 2.6.32-573.22.1.el6.x86_64.

My Question is should I use the "barrier option" and how must the SME9 fstab looks like ?

don't rely on kernel's version number: RH backports many features/bug fixes..

you'd search for "barrier option centos6" with google

You also might want to take a look at the wiki page on SME Server as VM guest.

Use a decent UPS to shutdown Prox which should gracefully close your VMs.

Don't use LVM and do use raw images as I believe that helps on recovery in event of complete disaster

If you're paranoid don't use write cache, or make sure your batteries to backup the write cache are good

And run a backup regularly.....
