Topic: e-smith v3.1 upgrade to v4.x

Can I do this? I have v3.1 configured the way I like it, with alot of custom changes to .conf files, etc, but definitely want newer version (4 and up) enhancements, features and fixes.

do a backup first,
make sure it is a good backup.
then boot from the 4.0 cd and when prompted, type upgrade instead of accept.

Almost everything work correctly from thae start for me.
The only ones that didn't were where i had strayed away from using the e-smith method with the template files.

Will this work with the 4.1 beta release from 4.01 with upgrade instead of accept

No, the beta release uses different boot options and upgrades
have not been tested.

Please discuss the beta releases on the devinfo mailing list.
They are developer previews.
