Has anybody tried installing Postgres onto an e-smith server? If so, what files would be required to get it going and would I need to make any mods to the system files? I have already installed MySQL but feel more comfortable with Postgres.

Yes, I installed the rpm for the latest 7.0.2-2 version without any difficulty.

In fact I added support for postgres under php and installed the php-postgress-admin
tool (similar to myadmin for MySql) for easy administration.

I am also running MySQL on the same server.

It does not affect the server in any bad way that I can see.

Cool - Could you tell me what rpm's I need. At the moment I have the 7.0.2 rpm plus the 7.0.2 server rpm. Where did you get the php-postgres-admin from? Have you found any good win32 clients for postgres?

Try Dan browns webmail add ons for a php module for postgress.

The rest you have.

There is an ODBC driver available for Windows, other than that, I have not found
any admin tools that run under Windows.

Try http://www.hotscripts.com for lots of php tools to administer and interface to
Postgress.

and http://www.postgresql.org/sites.html is the official site for latest rpms.

I've just d'loaded Great Bridge's PostgreSQL - one CD-R now lets me try it on several Linux platforms, including RedHat 6.1 (used in e-smith 4.0) as well as
RedHat 7.0 (used in e-smith 4.1.1).

Has anyone had problems with this BSD-licensed variation on the PostgreSQL theme?

Has e-smith, inc. ever posted any comment(s) on this?  ...or why they chose MySQL (reportedly able to lose data...?) rather than PostgreSQL?
