Topic: Mapping a network drive

We need to map a network drive directly, that is not simply an ibay/files. but preferably H: (where H: takes us directly to ibay/files/data). This is not supported directly by esmith so can anyone help with a work around with config files etc.

I think we may have found a solution.
We used the chmod cmd to alter the directory access rights. Suddenly we were able to map this folder!
Now for the hard part. On two currently installed networks this works like a charm, but on the network which started this whole question, we are not allow to copy anything to the server period. We can create new files but we are not permited to drag whole directories etc - to any folder mapped or otherwise, not even the users own "files" area.
Does this simply mean that we have a dud install?
We have installed clean to a new 20gig IBM drive and then we restored settings from the first 2gig drive.?
Any thoughts would be appreciated

I think you seriously going down the wrong path here!  As long as your username and password on you 98 box matches your username and password on the e-smith box you should be able map the a drive without any modifications.

I just created a user and tried it to be sure.  Worked fine.  Now I know if your using ME or W2K to connect to the e-smith box there may be some Samba parameters you have to change for passwords.  I am not sure what they have done in that area.

i am not sure I totally understand what you are saying but I think this problem could also be solved if you put everyone that is going to use H:/files/data into the same group and gave that group permission to the IBAY you would be able to get it to work. Just a though.
