Webmin Advice??
« on: October 18, 2000, 04:30:58 PM »
Hi there

I was just having a look at webmin on the E-smith server. It appears to have some useful tools etc. However I read the posting about webmin and appears that you probably don't need it?

I just want to see what the pros and cons of it are?? What do E-smith say about it?

Thanks
Brandon

I am not from e-smith but:

the main reason I see is that Webmin modifies the actual config files and not the template so any settings you modify will be changed back to the e-smith settings next time the templates get expanded. This could make for a very frustrating mess.

I've never seen webmin, but...

It seems most folks who are talking about webmin are talking about very specific changes -- disk quotas, etc. Why not use webmin to make the changes, figure out what they are, and then make templates for those files and write some panels to do the work from e-smith manager? Using webmin this way would take some of the "guru" factor out of determining what/how to change, and allow some otherwise competent folks who are not Linux experts to focus on doing the web panels for e-smith.

Just a thought.
