Italian version

We are in the process of translating all the menus for the e-manager into Italian as this would help distribute at full force the version of e-smith into the italian market.
Currently it ssems quite simple to do the conversion (and very tedious) as all perl scripts need to have the displaed text changed approiately. A direct question to the esmith dev tem ..will this infringe the authors rights (the e-smith company) or will we be breaking any laws according to the canadian law enforcement agencies?? (as we don't know if there is any specific terms apart to the GNU public licence)

Finally any kep points that we should look out for while digging thru the text to be changed in all perl scripts? Another main scope is to develop a gateway monitor which can indicate when the external gateway link goes down and doing an ifconfig eth1 down and then back up again does not reslve the e-smith gateway firewall forwardings. Will be more detailed in a post on the general users forum.

Is there any way to notify an external email address if a RAID s/w disk has failed or is bringup errors? or even an inter mail send to the admin account would be great (i'll put this into the wish list too).

cheers
aniston.

This sounds great - I don't have a need for Italian myself, but am keen to see the product fully Internationalised...
I strongly suggest working with Jaime Nebrera on this as he's working on making E-Smith i18n compliant (the 'proper' way to do Internationalisation) & he is also working on the Spanish i10n.

Also - this kind of modification is probably better discussed on the 'devinfo' mailing list..

Good Luck!
Fran.

Hi,

Thank you for asking. As you know, the GNU General Public License gives you the right to modify our software and distribute it, provided you make your modifications similarly available under the GPL.

However, the e-smith brand name, the e-smith logo and the term i-bay are protected. If someone modifies our software in any way, they are not allowed to associate our name with the new product without our permission. (We hope you understand that this is necessary to protect the value of our brand.)

This is explained in the e-smith.com FAQ:

http://www.e-smith.com/faq.php3#q12

Given this, the best way for you to proceed would be to sign up as an e-smith Authorized Partner. That way, we can work together to achieve your, and our, goals.

e-smith has a strong interest in internationalizing our software. To this end, we are supporting the effort to make e-smith i18n compliant. As Fran Boon mentioned, the best place to discuss this is the devinfo mailing list.
