NIC troubles

Installing 4.1 on a server with 3 x DLink 530TX NICs, I've discovered that the 2.2.16 kernel supplied with e-smith doesn't recognise the cards - in /proc/pci, they're listed as "VIA Unkown Device", and the VIA driver doesn't recognise them. This is a puzzler, considering that the NICs are on the RH7 compatibility list.

I've got it going with a pair of spare NE2k-PCI Realtek clones, but I need to use the DLink NICs in production. Is there anything I can do?

I've installed the identical cards with e-smith 4.1.1 and they worked fine being auto recognized during console config.  Try installing just one card for a test and see if it can be recognised correctly.  If this doesn't work you can manually load the nic drivers after installation.

It sounds just like my problem...
I also have a D-link 530 that is not recognized so I have to use some old Realteks too... I have e-smith 4.1.1 installed

How should I do if I want to try to reinstall the d-link card again?

According to D-link's linux support page:

 http://www.dlink.co.uk/linux_supp.html

you have a bundle of choices:

DFE 530TX-A1 - use the via-rhine driver
DFE 530TX-B1 - use the via-rhine driver
DFE 530TX-Cx or earlier - use the tulip driver
DFE 530TX-Ex or later - an updated version of the tulip driver
required. As e-smith does not currently have the
updated driver available, we do not recommend use
of DFE 530TX-Ex or later NICs

You're right, Charlie - these are DFE 530TX rev B1 cards. They don;t seem to work in anything ATM :)
