fetchmail should get mails from more pop3 boxes!
« on: March 15, 2001, 01:21:30 PM »
hi,
i wondered about the limited email features of e-smith?! multidrop - ok but there should also be a webinterface to configure fetchmail to get mails from different pop3 boxes and route them to a user! in many small bussines firms users have some pop3 boxes hosted by a big provider - u schould be able to fetch those mails and 4ward them to a user....

can anyone help me to customize the e-smith-manager to enable this feature?

Search the forums database, I think there is some tread called "Multifetch instead of multidrop" or something alike

use outlook or outlook express to do this by setting up multiple accounts. Since the needs of each user is different it is most logical to have the capability at the user mail client level.

On the other hand, having the e-smith server fetching from multiple POP3 accounts into a single local account, which simplifies the setup of the client. This can be advantageous if your users do not know how to setup their clients. It also centralizes more of the network management at the e-smith server. All in all, IMO it would be advantageous to have a multifetch capability in addition to multidrop.

I also have an ulterior motive in that I have a scenario where I need to have multiple POP3 accounts fetched to a single local account, and there is no option to do this on the client side.

Both options have goodies!
the advantage of bein centralized is, as scott said easiest for client pc user, but it could generate mixed account responses in the mail.
in the other hand, with client application controlling several account you cant keep reccord of mail that is not being fetched by e-smith. so you decide.

My choice would probably be setting several incoming accounts by multifetch. It all depends on you. :)

Hiya,

This fetchmail is EXACTLY what I want!  I have 2 domains, neither registered to my cable modem, so I have to pick up email via POP3. (btw - you may think having 2 domains is greedy, but one is my actual website domain, and main email addy, and the other is the domain associated with my CM account - where the e-bills get delivered!)

Anyway - setting the email client to pickup for both domains is a pain - lets have a multiple fetchmail setup please e-smith!

Thanks,

Richie
