Win 95 not reporting free space correctly
« on: March 16, 2001, 07:54:57 AM »
I've looked in the archive, and found one hit that may explain what I'm seeing. I've just set up some i-bays on a new server with a 40 GB hard drive. Win 95 is only showing 1.99 GB free (there's no data stored yet). Is this a factor of the Windows client? I have only one system available to test with, so can't check on 98 or NT.

Yes, this is a DOS limitation that effected earlier Win95 versions.  The Win95 service pack fixes this.

Not true......

I have several windoz clients, ranging from old win95 to win98 se and they all under report disc size.

I've found that Norton Utilities version of "system utilities" will report the correct disc size as well as used and unused space.

Good luck....
