Win2K DHCP Allocator
« on: April 01, 2001, 02:09:30 AM »
Hello,

Has anyone ever received this error?

The DHCP allocator has disabled itself on IP address 192.168.1.65, since the IP address is outside the 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 scope from which addresses are being allocated to DHCP clients. To enable the DHCP allocator on this IP address, please change the scope to include the IP address, or change the IP address to fall within the scope.

This error seems to occur when my Win2K box renews it's IP. The connection is severed for a while. Is this a Windows problem or am I configuring e-smith wrong. I couldn't find any help on MS site, unless it had to do with running a dhcp server on the Win2K machine, which I am not doing.

E-smith is configured as the domain master and running dhcp for the internal computers. The IP range is 192.168.1.65-250.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On a seperate issue, I would like to upgrade Samba to allow my Win2K to recognize my e-smith box as a PDC. Can I just download the newest version and install?

Thanks again,
David

Hello David,

I don't have W2K, but I believe you should look at TCP/IP
configuration - there should be somewhere the IP range in
which your W2K client should accept IP address - in your
case it is 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 and e-smith DHCP server
tries to assign 192.168.1.65, which is out of range. You should
either change range in your W2K client or change e-smith
DHCP server configuration to use IPs from 192.168.0.0/24 range.

Best Regards,
Mattias
