Opening a port
« on: April 30, 2001, 07:12:40 AM »
Gentlemen,

I understand how to add a port to be forwarded to masqadm but that is ok if you are running the server behind the e-smith gateway, I want to put a game server on the same box but currently I cannot see it on my internal network or externally.

the game is Half-life and the port is 27015.

Any help appreciated,
Kind Regards,
Cameron Stacey

Hi!
I have set up an half-life server on my e-smith and it works great... Which version of e-smith do you have? I have set it up on a 4.0 and a 4.1.1 without any problem. Have you installed every file that you need for the dedicated half-life server?
Go to http://server.counter-strike.net for more information on which files you need and how to start the server

If you give me more information then I can try to help you set up the server

Henrik,

I had no problem using version 4.0, I tried 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 and found I could not see the game from inside or outside the network, so I have it currently installed on a 4.0 server inside the network.

any ideas...?

Kind Regards,

Hi!
I´m not sure what is wrong... I run it on 4.1.1 and I connect via the Internet Games option in Half-Life but I can´t find when I try to connect to it via Lan Games... I don´t know why it is like this. I´ve would like to be able to connect to my Half-life server via LAN but I also want that people should be able to connect to it from outside via Internet Games...

I can´t help you so much right now but I´ll try to find out something...

Hi again!

Can you tell me wich command you use to start the server?
I don't know what could be wrong... I just installed and didn't have any problem at all. I connect via the internal ip adress 192.168.1.1 and people connect to my server via the external ip adress and it works great.

One thing you can check is if you have the ip_masq_quake module installed... I think, but I'm not sure, that this one makes it possible to play games like quake and half-life over e-smith. There are also modules like ip_masq_icq and so on that makes it possible to use ICQ. With these modules you don't have to forward ports... I'm not sure if it is like this, I'm only a newbie but it works for me without having to do any configuration in e-smith...

I will talk to a guy that is much better than me on this issue and see if he could help you.
