Have anyone installed Oracle 8.1.7 on e-smith.

I understand that we need GUI interface.  Is this true

While I haven't actually done an Oracle install on e-Smith, I can tell you that Oracle does not require a GUI.  They have something called an unattended installation which basically lays down the the Oracle binaries and then creates a very basic Oracle instance for you.  You can set SOME of the parameters during the installation.  After that it is up to tweaking normal database stuff and the init.ora.

Don't forget, you get MySQL with e-smith.  Really, I would suggest installing Oracle somewhere else!  If you are going to set up the Oracle optimal flexible architecture, you will need about 4 mount points.  e-Smith uses basically 1.

Good luck...
