Windows 2000pro and DOMAIN controller
« on: June 23, 2001, 09:02:37 PM »
My e-smith server is up and running.

I had trouble seeing it from my Windows2000 workstation machine until I browsed some of the threads here. The answer that worked for me was enabling NETBIOS over TCPIP, which I had disabled to make the ZoneAlarm firewall a little more secure.

The problem I have now is to make my Windows2000 workstation part of the e-smith DOMAIN. When I try to change from WORKGROUP to DOMAIN, I get the message "The specified domain either does no exist or could not be contacted".

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, as far as I know is a "Samba-Domain" not the same as a WinNT/Win2000-Domain.

I just put the Domainname in the Workgroupfield on my WinNT4 PC's and
voila, I can see all shares and printers of my e-smith server.

P.S. Did you create Machine-accounts for your Win2000 PC's ??
You have to!! There is a contrib-rpm called trustaccounts
which let you do this via the web-interface.

e-smith, out of the box, does not support Windows domains with Win2k clients.  If you upgrade Samba to 2.2.x, it may work with Win2k up to service pack 1.  It will not, however, work with service pack 2.  Search the messages here for instructions on how to install Samba 2.2.
