Avoid dialling on smtp requests..
« on: July 24, 2001, 01:48:43 AM »
Hi,

We use e-smith with a dialup modem and we just want the modem to call our ISP three times each day during office hours.

However I have noticed that diald triggers every time someone on the LAN sends a message to the Internet.  How can I have the dialler ignore smtp requests and save them in a que until crontab or squid initiates a dialup connection?

I ame a newbie to Linux and e-smith so I need a more detailed 'cook-book' than an expert :-|

Thanks in advance if someone can help

regards

Hi Stephen

Thanks for the suggestion, however I tried e-smith-isp a week ago but I couldn't get it to work with the alternate set of dial rules, also I cannot recall to see anything about queueing smtp requests until next scheduled dialup but call immediately for squid requests.

As I am a newbie I decided to uninstall e-smith-isp because I felt I need to be an expert to get it to work / understand it.  If I can get some help I am certainly willing to try again...

regards
