Here's the problem. I'm currently using a Compaq Proliant with NT as my web/mail/file/print/anti-virus server (she's a beast). I installed e-smith on a PC and *love* it. I'd like to get rid of NT on my server and use e-smith instead. The file serving portion is where I run into problems, currently I have three 9.1 gig cheetahs striped to provide storage space (which is almost full) and reading the documentation e-smith only supports raid-1.

What do yall recommend?

Can I use a hardware RAID device and mount manually, also manually creating a new share in smb.conf?

I'd rather not have to purchase any new hardware...

If what I've written sounds like gibberish it probably is, I was supposed to go to sleep 4 hours ago right before I found e-smith. But hey, that's pretty good, I've completely installed and configured it twice on a test machine and had it working flawlessly (I think) both times, all in only four hours! Hat's off to e-smith for making this thing so darn (almost too easy) quick and easy to use.

Your best bet is to go to a SUPPORTED hardware raid controller for e-smith, I personaly use the 3ware RAID Cards. And have had no problems, Look into the Escalade 6000 series.

Check out the the site at: www.3ware.com

Hi,

I run 4.1.2 on a Dell with three 9.1. scsi drives, with hardware RAID 5. (The box originally ran NT 4.0.) The RAID controller was not listed under "supported hardware" and the initial installation attempt failed.

After looking about a bit, however, I found a page that listed firmware upgrades -- I flashed the firmware and then installed again without a problem. It's running fine.
