Problem with domain name length
« on: August 28, 2001, 04:34:58 AM »
Hi,

I have a client with domain name of .co.nz

When I tried to have their PCs use this as their workgroup name under Win98, the domain name is too long to fit and then they lose the ability to log onto the entire domain. So to get them logged on I had to give them a truncated domain name.

But I want their mail to go to the correct FQDN and for them to get it when they log on. Is there a way to do this without setting up an i-Bay and e-mail aliases for every user or is this just Windoze being an ar$e ?

The windoze workgroup/domain and the internet domain are two completely different animals.  The internet domain would be set to whatever.co.nz, but the windoze domain can be set to anything.

Virtual domains (which don't require a separate i-bay) involve internet domains, not windows domains.
