comcast @home on E-Smith

I am having trouble setting up my comcast (MI) @home cable modem to my E-Smith server.  I have tried all of the suggestions from the previous forum questions with no luck.  I made sure that I am connecting to the correct NIC.  I have tried using DHCP and static connection types.  I have entered my @home name as the server name and the host name as the domain name. I have changed the server name in the workgroup settings to my @home name as well. The activity light on the network card is flickering but the server cannot connect to the internet.  What am I missing?

I had to set up a workstation with the exact settings first.  Once I had internet access, I then installed the e-smith os and when the system rebooted, I then unplugged the workstation and then set the computer name up as comcast expects you to.  Just put the CC#?#?#?-A or whatever they gave you.  For the host name, I put my host name, not the one comcast gives.  Also make sure that you put in the correct gateway and network mask.  Let e-smith use its own dns not comcasts.  When I set up dns through comcast, I could not get a connection.  If this all works and when you reboot the server at any point, you may lose internet access.  Just set up a workstation with the correct info to establish a connection, then switch cables.

I currently have the cable modem connected to a windows machine that is hosting the internet for my network using ICS.  When I tried to move the line to my E-Smith server I did pretty much what you suggested.  I set-up all of the settings on the server and then unpluged the network cable from the workstation and plugged it into the server.  I know the internet connection is active, I just cannot get the server to connect. I tried both using comcasts dns and not using it.

make sure comcast is plugged in on the correct network card - try swapping the cables around.steve wrote:

I tried that.  When I switched the cable I could not connect to the internet and the rest of my lan could not connect to the server.
