Port 3 -- a special Linux port?
« on: September 18, 2001, 06:47:27 PM »
Hi there!!

A close friend is running an ftp server on port 3.
I'm trying to connect to it, but I cannot, even when I SSH into the e-smith-box and run the ftp from there....

I don't even get a login prompt -- it just sits there indefinately....

Is there something special about port 3?  He can't change his server, and I'd like to learn if there are other ports such as port 3 that are unusable on e-smith.

Thank you in advance!
I appreciate your assistance!
Matt

Are you sure he opened the data port also?  I thought it runs 1 port below the port you run the ftp server on, in this case port 2, but normally port 20.

Also are you giving the port on the commandline?

His server is working just fine so a pile of other people, thats why I think it must be an e-smith thing....

Definately!

ftp> open 24.999.999.44 3

Thanks for your help!  I'm still not sure if there is anything I have to do on the e-smith box
