I am getting timeouts on large inbound file copies. The clients are normally win2k and NT from the public network. They normally send CD's worth of data to this machine, and are onw getting routine transfer errors. Linux clients using ncftp seem OK, but that's not an "option"...
The most peculiar item is the CPU usage on FTP. It stays around 80-90% on the FTP services whether the source is internal or external. Small files (5-30 Mb) copy OK with hi-cpu usage. Large files will time out repeatedly.
The machine is using a slightly tweaked essg 4.1.2 as server/gateway over roadrunner cable internet service. The machine is a PII266 / 128Mb/ 2x40Gb HDD and an Intel Pro100 Dual NIC.
Any thoughts or tips for isolating this would be welcomed.
Thanks
Allen
