Is there a tool within SME 5 that will tell you the bandwidth used by the server on a particular network interface?

I know of web sites that will let you download a large file and tell you your resulting bandwith.  However, all this is very dependent on the time of day, location of site and other stuff.

I would just like to know how actually busy is my external interface and keep regular statistics!

Statistics like how many bytes transmitted, errors... can be found from the ipconfig command.  However, there is usualy no time period associated with this.  Unless I make a specific test...

If no tools are available within SME 5, does anyone know of one that can be installed?

Anyone?

Serge.

Try using this.  It works well for me and it's very reliant.

I'd suggest installing the phpSysInfo utility in an Ibay on your server.

Dan Brown has been known to show his phpSysInfo stats to the world at:

A link to the phpSysInfo site can be found at the bottom of this (and any other phpSysInfo page).

THanks for the info Luke.  I believe that this is a great tool but do not see any bandwith information as such...  Just bytes sent and received, no bytes per seconds.

Reinhardt suggested the MRTG tools.  This tool is a little better as it is supposedly capable of providing bandwidrt information.  It however, seem to work with configured SNMP devices like routers.

Although SME 5 (based on Linux) can be made to run SNMP.  It is not configured from start for it.  I installed the SNMP tools on my SME 5 server but the default configuration does not contain the necessary configuration that MRTG requires.

Any ideas on how to get this to work under SME 5?

Serge, you might want to take a look at the server monitor package at ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/contrib/eneo/RPMS/noarch/e-smith_monitor.html.
