Primary Domain Controller

Hi,
I'm trying to set up my e-SME Server 5 box as a PDC, I went through Dan Brown's "How to use e-smith 4.1.2 as a Primary Domain Controller for Windows 2000 clients" but this doesn't work... I'm using a PPPOE DSL connection with a dynamic IP : is there any way to set it up ?
Thanks in advance for your help !!!

Hi

I did the same thing and kept getting errors .. The error i seem to get is Procedure out of Range. After searching around a bit i came acrpss this msg on the net..
the unix sync is already commented out so i dunno how to solve it any further.. any one got any ideas..

im pasting the msg below for all to see

"The following error occurred
attempting to join the domain 'MY_DOM': The procedure number is out of
range".  I recompiled the rpms several times and each time changing the
configure options until I had the same options the first time I got it
to work.  Needless to say after several hours I could not get that
message to go away.

I then decided to look over the smb.conf file, which this is where I
struck pay dirt.  When I first started I had included the option "unix
password sync = yes" so I could sync my unix passwords with my smb
passwords.  Well when I disabled that option I was able to join the
domain just like before, without the procedure out of range message."

sm0ke, the "procedure number out of range" message usually means you haven't upgraded Samba and you're trying to join a Win2k machine to the domain.

Jean-Philippe, I haven't the foggiest idea what could be going on here, as you haven't given any information about what's happening.  Your internet connection is completely irrelevant to the operation of Samba, but it's impossible to get any idea of what's going on if you don't at least say what errors you're getting.

Sorry about that : I just found the URL someone gave in a reply to a message on this forum, I followed what you said and everything is fine now : thanks a lot for this "HOWTO" : I think I'll make a french "HOWTO" based on it...

I upgraded samba and have got it to join the domain, but when i restarted the pc and tried to logon with my wink username/password for the machine it wouldnt let me saying username password not recognised .. im assuming this has somethhing to do with user access/creation?

I can log on fine onto the local machine with the username password just not the domain

thanks for any help

Hi there,

Your Windows user must also be a SME user : is it so ?
