Need Help
« on: October 18, 2001, 03:58:16 PM »
I've installed and configured but can't access the net from it or it's browser based configuration from any of my Win2k machines.  Also, how do I enable file/printer sharing between it and my Win2k machines?  BTW, I'm trying to setup a LAN-side file server.

TIA...

OK...

Ethernet driver 1: eepro100
Ethernet driver 2: unknown (only have one NIC for LAN-side file server)

Operation mode: server only - dedicated
Gateway IP address: 192.168.1.1 (this is my Netopia SDSL router)

Local IP address: 192.168.1.10 (IP of SME server; Win2k systems are .2, .3, .4)
Local subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 (same as Win2k systems & router)
DHCP server: disabled (systems & router configured statically)

Primary domain name: not hosting a web site and don't use domains in Windows, so I just keyed my ISP's domain
System name: sme
Master DNS server: ISP's primary DNS server; also tried router IP (192.168.1.1)
External proxy: no
Status reports: off
Console mode: auto

Thanks...

Are you sure the eepro100 driver is the right one for your nic?

Take a look at this posting:

Let us know, regards.

I believe that may be the case.  I have the Intel Pro/100 S Management adapter.

Anyway, I tried the above link and keying in:

modprobe e100
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1

yields a bunch of jibberish about incorrect module params and "indmod e100 failed".

I think the fastest & cheapest way is to try another NIC. Some very cheap cards are recognized by SMEV5 with no problem. This way you will be up and running.

If you have a spare 'old' pentium, you can find out what is wrong or which drivers to use for that NIC or you can keep on trying.

Good luck and I hope you can post your experiances.

It was the NIC drivers.  I switched to a 3com and everything is fine.

Now, now do I disable services on startup that I won't be using, such as AppleTalk?
